THE WORLD OF DEHESA
In a very, very distant time, mythological beings, goblins and animals lived happily together in an imaginary kingdom called Iberia. A happy kingdom where water and food were abundant for all its inhabitants. The king of the dehesa
Since immemorial times, the undisputed king of the dehesas of Iberia has been and still is the purebred Iberian pig. Elegant and fi ne bearing, its breed is distinguished by wearing black or coloured layers, by its elongated snout, its ears in visor and its high limbs that enable it for grazing and qualify it as an excellent walker. The deshesa offers a healthy and balanced diet and, twice a year, in the so-called montaneras, the necessary acorns that provide the meat the unctuousness and taste so appreciated.
The lookout of the dehesa
With the fi rst lights of the day the mists dissipate little by little. The gentle hills, the lush forests and the streams of the meadows begin to light up, and their inhabitants lazily begin their daily labors. On his watchtower located in the cup of the highest oak, upright and altanera, emerges the fi gure of the golden eagle. As every day, nothing and no one alters the peace of the dehesa. It carries in its peak the white fl ower of the jara, the symbol of fertility and life. From their fl owers every spring the bees fertilize the fi elds so that the cycle of life develops and is covered with fresh grasses and the holm oaks can give beautiful acorns so that the Iberian pig feeds in a healthy and natural way.
The king of the forest
Haughty, since he possesses the legitimate pride of belonging to the darkness of the forest, among the beams of rays of sun that fi lter through the tangle of branches and leaves, it is distinguished far away the proud and haughty figure of the deer, the king of the forest. There is no one in the entire pasture who competes with him in speed, dexterity and bravery. He knows this well, and for this reason, he likes to adorn the crown of his head with branches of oaks. When he meets the Iberian pig he presents his respects and offers him from his horns the best and freshest acorns.
The pond musician
At night the Iberian toad goes out to sing to the moon and the stars that cover the sky as a blanket of small and bright lights.
